Longhouse Reserve
East Hampton, New York 2022-2023
LongHouse Reserve commissioned our first major outdoor sculpture April 30, 2022 to April 30,2023.
Cedar trees dot the brothers’ property in Germantown NY. While clearing a lot there, Steven and William became enamored by the environment’s many facets, especially the fragrant cedar aroma that transported them back to childhood and their grandmother’s cedar chest full of magical fabrics – their introduction to textiles.
They found themselves t cutting small circular beads from cedar branches and trunks, enthralled by the beautiful rose colors beneath the bark. An immediate connection was made to the foundational themes informing their art practice, and they began to “weave” the carved beads into textiles. These became the walls and the ceiling of a wooden passthrough structure sheltering a garden pathway at Longhouse Reserve – a site inviting viewers in and offering an elevated shift in perspective.
